Coconut Products
The coconut palm is a multi-purpose tree, which is very well suited to small holder cultivation on marginal lands. While millions of poor farmers in Indonesia depend on it as the main source of income, the coconut palm is also an environmentally friendly crop, as it doesn’t need any external inputs. However, currently hardly any assistance with product development and marketing is available to the farmers involved and very little promotion of coconut products is taking place. As a consequence of the latter, coconut oil, for instance, seems to be losing out to (aggresively promoteded) palm oil.
